Web
site and application development is where I primarily focus my energies. However,
I do work in other areas, please see the Services
page for information about what I can do for you.
I
started developing web pages and web sites 15 years ago. I
had been an avid user of computer Bulletin Board Systems for
many years, but until 1992 I had never heard of the Internet.
One day, I was watching television and saw something about
this thing called the Internet. I started calling around and
got signed up with a local ISP. I began surfing, and it didn't
take me long to develop a desire to learn about the Internet
and the web pages I was visiting.
I
downloaded a free HTML editor and began to play with it. I
quickly found myself stifled by it's design, so I learned
about all of the tags that the program used and switched to
using Windows Notepad. I continued to develop pages in notepad
for several years. It was 1999 when I finally started working
with new web development software. That software was Microsoft
FrontPage.
At
first, FrontPage was exciting and interesting. But then I
began to learn that it was difficult to upload and maintain
a site using a standard dial up connection. As I continued
to develop pages, I also began to learn new ways to develop
those pages to make them easier to use and more visually appealing.
In
2000, I purchased my first copy of Macromedia Flash. It was
difficult to learn, but I was excited to see the possibilities
for web development using this multimedia tool. Although none
of my clients required or desired to invest in the development
of multimedia content for their web sites, I continued to
experiment with it.
In
2001, I first began developing with Macromedia Dreamweaver.
I instantly fell in love with this software, as it made my
work so much easier. Dreamweaver has much broader support
for the various scripting languages, as well as built in support
for building data-driven web sites. To this day, I still prefer
Dreamweaver over other development tools. I have tried most
of the more popular products, and find that this one just
suits me more. It has built in integration with Flash, Fireworks
and more.
Since that time, I have continued to work with Macromedia Dreamweaver and Macromedia Studio specifically because of it's inclusion of Fireworks, Flash, Freehand, and Contribute. These tools, when used together gave me the ability to create media rich web applications for the clients that desired them. I am constantly learning new tools and technologies, always attempting to enhance my skillset. Although currently I do the majority of my development in PHP with MySQL back ends when needed, I am capable of developing with ASP and Jscript / VBScript. The opportunity has not presented itself to work with any of the .NET technologies as yet, but I do look forward to it.
